The Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS), through its Implementation Division, recently hosted a stakeholder consultation on the enforcement of TTCS 24:2023 – Electrical Appliances: Compulsory Requirements.
The session engaged importers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers of electrical appliances in discussions surrounding updated requirements for product safety, labelling, conformity assessment and compliance mechanisms for electrical appliances entering the local market.
The revised compulsory standard aligns Trinidad and Tobago with internationally accepted practices and aims to:
✔ strengthen consumer protection
✔ improve product safety and quality
✔ support fair trade practices
✔ enhance confidence in the local marketplace
TTBS was also pleased to welcome Mr. Flavio Gonzalez, Head of Trade and Cooperation for Mexico in Trinidad and Tobago, whose participation highlighted the importance of international collaboration and continued dialogue on quality infrastructure, consumer protection and trade facilitation.
Stakeholders were also guided on TTBS’ compliance support mechanisms, including documentation review, testing services and pre-shipment approval processes.
Through initiatives such as these, TTBS continues to strengthen the National Quality Infrastructure and promote a culture of quality, safety and accountability throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
