Description
This standard specifies the requirements including maximum permissible limits of key parameters, with which the effluent discharged from industrial processes point sources into the environment shall comply. This standard applies to the effluent discharged from industrial processes point sources into the environment which includes conduits (man-made) which connect to the natural environment; it does not apply to the discharge of industrial effluent into sewerage systems operated by governmental entities or into wastewater treatment plants.
This standard does not provide the permissible limits for the quality of effluents discharged into sewerage systems operated by governmental entities or into wastewater treatment plants. This standard provides references to the methods of sampling and examination of effluent.
This standard does not provide details on the methods of treatment of industrial effluents nor on the design, operation or maintenance of the wastewater treatment plants necessary to ensure and maintain effluent discharged into the environment in compliance with the permissible limits specified in this standard.
This standard does not apply to the discharge of effluent or liquid waste from any sea-going vessel of any type whatsoever, or from any floating craft, with the exception of an installation or device engaged in the exploration and exploitation of the resources of the sea-bed and the ocean floor and the subsoil thereof. The disposal of liquid or sludge wastes into underground disposal wells, once geologic and hydrogeologic conditions have been determined by the competent authority to be favourable for the type of wastes to be discharged, shall be excluded from the scope of application of this standard.
