TTBS Commemorates World Standards Day 2025

October 14th, 2025.

As Trinidad remains committed to building a standards-conscious society — one that empowers businesses, safeguards citizens and promotes trust in local products and services.

On this day, TTBS joins the global community in celebrating World Standards Day 2025 under the theme “A Shared Vision for a Better World — Spotlight on SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.” This observance highlights how standards serve as the invisible foundations that support quality, safety and sustainability and how collaboration across sectors drives progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

On this occasion, TTBS has launched a special video message featuring Senator the Honourable Satyakama Maharaj, Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism. In his message, the Minister said, “The Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism reaffirms its commitment to driving economic transformation beyond oil and gas. On this World Standards Day, in pursuit of this vital objective, we pledge to uphold the highest global standards.”

He noted that adherence to standards allows local products and services to compete confidently in regional and global markets, positioning Trinidad and Tobago as a trusted partner in international trade.

TTBS’ Executive Director, Mr José E. Trejo, also reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to building strong public–private partnerships that strengthen the National Quality Infrastructure and advance national priorities.

“Through strategic partnerships, we are supporting growth in key sectors — from food processing and agriculture to ICT, renewable energy, and the creative industries. Standards are powerful tools for building global recognition and trust in our local products and services,” he stated.

Established under the Standards Act No.18 of 1997, TTBS is the National Standards Body. TTBS develops, promotes and enforces standards to improve the quality and performance of goods produced or used locally. The organization plays a leading role in implementing Trinidad and Tobago’s National Quality Policy (NQP 2018–2030) and advancing the nation’s commitment to the SDGs.

TTBS reaffirms that standards are the foundation of trust, innovation and sustainable growth. Through partnerships with global standardization bodies such as ISO, IEC, ICC, CROSQ, BSI, ASTM International, and many more, TTBS continues to build capacity, strengthen policy coherence and champion innovation across industries.
