TTBS Celebrates World Quality Day 2021

Date: November 10th, 2021: The Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS) joins the international community in celebrating World Quality Day on Thursday 11th November, 2021. World Quality Day is a global initiative which acknowledges the work of quality institutions and quality professionals.

The theme of this year’s celebration is, “Sustainability: improving our products, people and planet“.  TTBS remains committed in its support to the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) in its efforts to strengthen Trinidad and Tobago’s National Quality Infrastructure, through the implementation of the National Quality Policy (NQP). The NQP is a critical component of the country’s sustainability efforts and supporting the achievement of Vision 2030 and the UNs Sustainable Development Goals, as it promotes the more effective use of local resources be they human, financial or natural.

This year’s theme could not be more appropriate as we seek to address global challenges of a pandemic, supply chain disruptions, climate change, natural resource shortages and the need to transition to a new way of operating, to provide quality goods and services to our population.   Trinidad and Tobago has to put measures in place, if we are to emerge, stronger and with positive growth of our society and economy.

As such, TTBS, in collaboration with MTI, recently launched the “Building a Quality Culture in Trinidad and Tobago Project” through the funding of the Caribbean Development Bank under the CSME Standby Facility. This project supports a series of activities contributing to the enhancement of the quality competitiveness of goods and services produced in Trinidad and Tobago.  This project focuses in three sectors (i) Food and Beverage Manufacturing, (ii) Business, Professional and ICT Services and (iii) Agriculture and Agro-processing.  During implementation, a public awareness and sensitization programme, a quality intelligence programme and a continuous learning and improvement programme will be developed and implemented.

The ultimate goal of the project is to increase awareness, develop understanding and improve attitudes and behaviours related to standards and quality around goods and services produced and traded for local consumption as well as for international trade.  This project is expected to facilitate a more quality conscious population and a more quality intelligent business sector, which would in turn support a more sustainable, internationally competitive and diversified economy.

Protection of the consumer, health and safety and the environment, is crucial in achieving sustainable growth and development of our economy. On this occasion of World Quality Day, TTBS calls on all citizens to join with us in acknowledging the important contribution that quality makes towards both organisational and national growth, and prosperity, as we chart a path towards achieving a quality conscious society.
