TTBS Continues Rollout of National Programme to Strengthen Measurement Accuracy and Trust in Trade

The Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS), through its Certification Division, has officially awarded Metrology Practitioner Registration Programme (MPRP) certificates to The Trinidad Label Company Limited (TLC) and eight of its technicians, further advancing the national rollout of this critical regulatory initiative.

The certification ceremony, held on April 23, 2026, recognises TLC’s successful compliance with the requirements established under Section 13 of the Metrology Act. This milestone represents another significant step in TTBS’ efforts to build a strong National Quality Infrastructure – a key strategic pillar under the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Industry.

The MPRP establishes a formal framework for the registration and certification of individuals and organisations engaged in metrology-related services, including the calibration, maintenance, repair, and adjustment of measuring devices used in trade. These services are essential across sectors such as manufacturing, retail, food and beverage, and packaging.

For TLC, the certification enhances its internal quality systems while strengthening confidence among clients and partners who rely on precise measurement in production and labelling processes. It also positions the company to meet evolving regulatory requirements as Trinidad and Tobago advances toward full national compliance in metrology services.

Speaking on the development, Executive Director (Ag.) of TTBS, Ms. Karlene Lewis, noted:

“The certification of The Trinidad Label Company Limited and its technicians reflects the kind of industry leadership needed to build confidence in measurement systems across Trinidad and Tobago. When companies invest in accuracy and competence, it strengthens not only their operations, but the integrity of trade as a whole.”

The MPRP forms part of a broader national effort to strengthen the country’s quality infrastructure by ensuring that all practitioners involved in measurement-related activities meet defined standards. In this regard, TTBS is encouraging all companies and individuals involved in metrology-related activities to begin the certification process and align their operations with the requirements of the programme.
