Opportunity for TRAINING in the International Standard, ISO/IEC 17025:2005 – General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories Tuesday 4th – Thursday 6th April 2017
Trinidad and Tobago Laboratory Accreditation Service (TTLABS) would like to extend an invitation to managerial and technical laboratory staff to participate in the TTLABS International Standard, ISO/IEC 17025:2005 – General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories training to be held from Tuesday 4th – Thursday 6th April 2017 facilitated by Ms Karlene C. Lewis Manager, TTLABS.
According to ISO/IEC Guide 2:2004 – Standardization and related activities – General vocabulary, accreditation is defined as the procedure by which an authoritative body gives formal recognition that a body or person is competent to carry out specific tasks. Laboratory accreditation is a process that employs independent third party external assessments by qualified and trained personnel (assessors) to determine conformity with recognized standards for quality management systems and competent laboratory practice.
TTLABS, as the national laboratory accrediting body through Standards Act No. 18 of 1997, offers accreditation services to testing, calibration and medical laboratories. Accreditation affords many benefits to laboratories and other organizations whose operations depend upon laboratory test data. Accreditation to the International Standard ISO/IEC 17025:2005 demonstrates via a rigorous process to all stakeholders including business customers, the technical competence of that laboratory, giving an international sign of assurance. Accredited laboratories are able to ensure the international comparability, reliability, and equivalence of measurement results through the use of appropriate reference materials and methods. Using an accredited laboratory also increases confidence that costs associated with laboratory problems, including re-testing, re-sampling, and lost time are minimized.
TTLABS has recognized its role in supporting quality improvement and developing a national laboratory accreditation programme, through the provision of assessors, laboratory accreditation services and International Standards training. The International Standard ISO/IEC 17025:2005 training programme will take place from Tuesday 4th – Thursday 6th April 2017, 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at The Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards head office, 1 – 2 Century Drive, Trincity Industrial Estate, Macoya, Tunapuna.
