This document applies to the production and supply of ready-mixed concrete for buildings, cast in situ. The standard applies to ready-mixed concrete (including self-consolidating concrete) delivered to the purchaser in an unhardened, fresh state.

This document applies to the constituent materials, plant and equipment and production control systems used in the production of ready-mixed concrete.

This standard applies to ready-mixed concrete orders where the minimum compressive cylinder strength is specified by the purchaser. It does not apply to ready-mixed concrete orders where the purchaser specifies the mixture proportions, also referred to as prescribed mixes.

NOTE  This standard covers options A and C for ASTM C94/C94M and the designed mix of BS EN 206. Further information on the ASTM C94/C94M ordering options is outlined below:

–           Option A – This scenario applies where the producer assumes full responsibility for the selection of the proportions of the concrete mixture with the minimum compressive strength specified by the purchaser;

–           Option B – This scenario applies where the purchaser assumes responsibility for the proportioning of the concrete mixture; and

–           Option C – This scenario applies where the producer assumes full responsibility for the selection of proportions for the concrete mixture with the minimum allowable cement content and minimum compressive strength specified by the purchaser.

This document provides a framework for assessing compliance with the purchaser’s requirements. This document does not specify general, minimum quality requirements for ready-mixed concrete but assesses compliance on the basis of conformance to purchaser’s requirements. In addition, this document does not apply to the following:

–           concrete used in the construction of transportation infrastructure including highways, bridges, pavements and tunnels;

–           concrete used in the production of precast beams and columns;

–           non-volumetric site mixed concrete; and

–           the placement, consolidation, curing or protection of ready-mixed concrete.

NOTE: Ready-mixed concrete is produced to meet the purchaser’s requirements and the intended application, thus the properties of individual orders of ready-mixed concrete may vary.

This standard also outlines the mechanism to demonstrate compliance to the purchaser’s requirements and includes measures to be taken in the event of non-compliance.

    This standard specifies minimum requirements for driveway gates used primarily to control vehicular access to premises. Included are requirements for design, fabrication, finishes, and installation. It also outlines specific safety features to be incorporated as a means of mitigating against failure during operation.

    NOTE: Annex E contains recommendations for good maintenance practices associated with driveway gates.
    This standard applies to automated and manually operated metal sliding gates and swing gates of widths up to 6.1 m (20 ft).
    NOTE: Driveway gates in Trinidad and Tobago are largely constructed of steel, wrought iron and aluminium. Gates constructed of timber are not common but requirements for such gates can be addressed in the future if it becomes necessary.
    This standard does not apply to the following:
    a) gates designed primarily for pedestrian use;
    b) roller or shutter doors and gates;
    c) bi-fold or multi-fold swing gates;
    d) security barriers used for controlling vehicular access; and
    e) sliding gates with sloping tracks.
    NOTE 1: This standard is intended to primarily address driveway gates for residential premises and, in particular, specify key safety features. Examples of member sizes given in the Annexes are only indicative and relate to gates which are normally no more than 6.1 m (20 ft) wide and 2.4 m (8 ft) high. However, each gate is unique and should be adequately designed to withstand the load conditions to which it will be subjected.
    NOTE 2: The principles and practices in this standard will generally apply to larger gates such as those used on commercial, institutional and industrial premises; in such cases, the design should take account of the appropriate loads and operating characteristics of the gate.

    This standard provides guidelines and establishes minimum requirements for the design and construction of small buildings including specific provisions for foundations, columns, beams, walls, floors, and roofs. Included are requirements for structural integrity, occupancy, health, safety, and mitigation measures to minimize the impact of hurricanes, earthquakes and flooding. Conventional design, engineering design parameters and basic construction materials are also dealt with. The provisions apply to buildings for single or multiple-family residential, or general purpose use, comprising not more than two storeys and with a gross floor area of three hundred square metres (300 m2) or less. The provisions relate to the location, design, construction, alteration, movement, enlargement, repair, equipping, occupancy, use, maintenance, removal and demolition of structures classified as small buildings in accordance with Clause 1.2.

    NOTE: Sufficient detail is provided to allow for the adequate preparation of plans for buildings under normal environmental conditions. The designer or builder is advised to seek assistance from registered professionals for the design or construction of – buildings intended for special use; – buildings in conditions not considered to be normal environmental conditions; and – buildings of size or complexity which falls outside the scope of this standard. These provisions are intended for use by persons with knowledge and experience in the design and construction of buildings. In addition, it is assumed that all designs will be submitted to the relevant statutory agencies for approval.

    NOTE: It is expected that the regulatory agencies will deal with applications for building development on the basis of adherence to the requirements of this document. These provisions are not intended to prevent the use of methods of design, types of materials or types of construction, as alternates to those detailed in the document. Such alternates may be utilized based on approval from the relevant statutory agency.

    NOTE: Where alternative design methods, types of materials or types of construction are proposed, it is expected that an assessment of adequacy will be made on the basis that the alternative will result in a level of safety and sufficiency at least equal to that obtained by following the requirements detailed in this document.
