This standard establishes general labelling requirements for goods. It applies to all goods which are used in Trinidad and Tobago with the exceptions indicated below. This standard does not apply to the following: a) goods or classes of goods for which labelling requirements have been prescribed in national regulations issued by other Government Ministries and agencies; inter alia i) goods or classes of goods for food, drugs, cosmetics and medical devices; ii) goods or classes of goods for pesticides and toxic chemicals. b) goods or classes of goods for which specific labelling requirements have been prescribed in compulsory National Standards; and c) goods or classes of goods for agricultural produce. This standard applies to imported and locally manufactured biodegradable food-contact, single-use products, designed to be compostable in municipal or industrial composting facilities. It outlines the compulsory requirements for the aforementioned products as well as the mechanisms to demonstrate compliance to these requirements and also includes measures to be taken in the event of non-compliance. This standard does not apply to secondary packaging which does not come into contact with food (for example, outer wrappers or cartons. It also does not apply to packing material used as stuffing to prevent damage to products during transportation and storage.
