On November 13th 2012, many countries will celebrate the Hindu festival of Divali (Diwali), known as the ‘Festival of Lights’. Divali signifies the triumph of good over evil. Divali and the weeks leading up to it is commemorated with the use of diyas, bamboo and fireworks which are burst in order to drive away evil spirits. However, improper use of fireworks can lead to serious bodily harm and in some cases death. The Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards has realised that it is imperative to sensitize the public on fireworks safety during this season and beyond. As such, we have decided to highlight an international standard that pertains to fireworks safety: AS 2187.2-2006. It is our hope that members of the general public would take into consideration these precautions particularly where children are concerned.
AS 2187.2-2006 Explosives – Storage and use – Use of explosives:

This Standard is for reference by manufacturers, suppliers, and users of explosives. In addition,it is for reference by regulators and beneficiaries of activities involving explosives.’
