Metrology SIM Assessment

The Metrology Division at The Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS) is “On the Road” to have its best “Calibration and Measurement Capability (CMC)” for the discipline of mass approved and recognized on the BIPM-Key Comparison Database. The ability to report our best measurement capability on this international measurement database means that TTBS would be fulfilling the requirements of the CIPM- MRA signed by CARICOM in 2005.

The process involved the Metrology Division subjecting itself to two external, extensive Technical and Quality Management System assessments in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:- General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. These assessments were completed by National Metrology Institute (NMI) peer assessors (as shown in the photos) from the Regional Metrology Organization (SIM) during the month of June and July, 2018. Having undergone the peer assessment, this now places the Metrology Division in a position of readiness to pursue its international equivalence of measurements. As a result, Trinidad and Tobago will better demonstrate in accordance with the CIPM-MRA an open, transparent and comprehensive scheme to give users reliable quantitative information on the comparability of national metrology services and to provide the technical basis for wider agreements negotiated for international trade, commerce and regulatory affairs.
