Requirements for Registration & Certification
Section 13 (1) & (2) of the Metrology Act No. 18 of 2004, states that the Bureau shall maintain and publish annually a register of the names of persons carrying on the business in Trinidad and Tobago of:
prescribed measuring devices for use in trade. A “prescribed measuring device” is defined as a measuring device that is used or intended to be used in connection with trade and is listed in Schedule 1 of the Metrology Regulations, 2015.
Persons shall not be included on the register unless being issued a certificate from the Bureau certifying their fitness to carry on such a business as indicated above. A person who engages in business without having the certificate from the Bureau is guilty of an offence.
For the process to begin, persons are required to complete the application form and submit to the Bureau. This information will be put into a database, so that adequate preparations can be made for the certification process.
When requested by the Bureau, the applicant shall provide additional information as is necessary to enable the Bureau to process the application.
Certification of Persons
The certification system for persons under the Act is under development. Stakeholders’ will be notified and consultations will be conducted before the certification system is launched.
